Our Story: 30 Years of Digital Marketing Innovation
In 1995, when most people had never heard of "search engines" and "digital advertising" was a concept waiting to be born, a small group of visionary marketers in Silicon Valley saw the future. They understood that the internet would fundamentally change how businesses reach customers—and they wanted to help businesses navigate this brave new world.
PPC Info was born in a cramped office above a coffee shop in Palo Alto, California. Our founders—former advertising executives, early internet pioneers, and a mathematics professor who believed in the power of data—pooled their savings to create what they called "the marketer's encyclopedia for the digital age."
"We didn't just witness the birth of digital advertising—we helped write the playbook. When Google AdWords launched in 2000, PPC Info was there to help marketers understand it. When Facebook introduced business pages, we were the first to publish comprehensive guides. For 30 years, we've been the constant in an ever-changing industry."
Our first "article" was actually a printed newsletter, mailed to 127 subscribers who paid $12 per month for insider tips on AltaVista advertising and Yahoo! banner optimization. By 1998, we had moved entirely online, becoming one of the first marketing resources on the web. When Google launched AdWords in 2000, PPC Info was ready—our coverage helped thousands of businesses understand this revolutionary new advertising model.
Growing with the Industry
The 2000s brought explosive growth—both to digital advertising and to PPC Info. What started as a newsletter became a comprehensive knowledge base. Our team grew from 3 founders to 15 dedicated editors, each bringing specialized expertise in emerging platforms and strategies.
We were there when Facebook opened its advertising platform to businesses. We published the first comprehensive guide to Twitter Ads within hours of its launch. When Instagram introduced sponsored posts, our mobile advertising team had analysis ready the same day. This commitment to being first—and being right—earned us a reputation that spread by word of mouth across the global marketing community.
By 2010, PPC Info had become a household name in marketing circles. Our community forums—launched in 2003—had grown to over 100,000 active members sharing strategies, troubleshooting campaigns, and forming professional relationships that often lasted for years. Many of today's CMOs and marketing directors credit PPC Info forums with launching their careers.
Today: A Global Marketing Institution
Today, PPC Info is more than a website—we're a global marketing institution. Our team of 50+ expert editors includes former Google employees, Facebook advertising veterans, agency founders, and academic researchers. Together, we publish over 500 new articles each year, maintain a library of 200+ marketing calculators, and serve a community that spans every continent.
Our content has been cited in Harvard Business School case studies, referenced by the Wall Street Journal and Forbes, and translated into 23 languages by our international partners. The average PPC Info reader is a marketing professional with 7+ years of experience—yet even seasoned veterans tell us they learn something new every week.
But what makes us most proud isn't our accolades or statistics—it's the impact we've had on real businesses and real careers. We've received over 50,000 thank-you notes from readers who landed their dream marketing job, launched successful campaigns, or finally understood a concept that had confused them for years. Each one reminds us why we started this journey 30 years ago.
